OUR HISTORY

In ancient times, a raised platform, or Tupa, was used by fishermen to observe the sea. Today, Tupa Hotel maintains one of the most spectacular locations with amazing views over the West coast of Easter Island, or Rapa Nui.

Built by renouned native archaeologist and former governor Sergio Rapu Haoa, the hotel has served as a home to several notable figures including Thor Heyerdal, Norwegian explorer and author of the famous book Aku Aku.

LOCATION & SERVICES

Tupa Hotel has 40 rooms and is centrally located in the town of Hanga Roa. Travelers can walk to a variety of restaurants, shops, pubs, and the coast line in about 5 minutes.

We continue our long history of welcoming explorers by helping today's adventurers discover the richness the island has to offer. Archaeological tours as well as personal transportation can be arranged through the hotel. We can also set up private tours, jeep rentals, horse tours, bicycles, and other services. Whether on an organized tour or exploring on one's own, our knowledgable staff can help plan the trip of a lifetime.
